“For a moment, when the light from the sun was behind him, he almost seemed to vanish into the scenery.”
“He was handsome, intelligent, and driven, a successful lawyer eight years older than she, and he pursued his job with a passion, not only winning cases, but also making a name for himself.”
How did you feel about Allie moving on from Noah to Lon?
Ashley: I was very depressed, and upset that she could just move on like that. They both spent the summer together and they have a part of each other.
Carly: I don’t understand how he loves her, but she doesn’t love her back.
How do you think Noah felt when he saw Allie with another man?
Ashley: I think it brought him down, emotionally inside, how could she do that, he loved her and she just moved on from him.
Carly: I think it made him really upset, and it brought him down.
‘ My daddy used to tell me that the first time you fall in love, it changes your life forever, and no matter how are you try, the feelin’ never goes away. This girl you been tellin’ me about was your first love. And no matter what you do, she’ll stay with you forever.’ Do you think that this is true?

I think that this book very modern language. The text is easy to read, and very understandable. No parts of this book used any words that me or any of my group members did not understand. I think this book is written at more of an adult reading level, due to the adult content and situations.

“She saw bats in the sky, and frogs and joined the crickets in their evening harmony”

A. Noelle
The tone of the book is sad right now, and its very emotional. The two main characters love each other but they don't do anything about it. Noah and Allie make the tone of the story very sad and depressing. Everyone in the group thinks this art of the book is the saddest. Some examples are, Allie is with another man, and Noah still loves her. He sees her in the town with another man, and he gets heartbroken. Allie is engaged to Lon and Noah is still in love with Allie, and he doesn't know if she loves him back still.
B & C. Carly
“Could it be? She wondered. Could he be right?”
“You are the answer to every prayer I’ve offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I don’t know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have. I love you, allie, more than you can ever imagine. I always have, and I always will”
“He walked to the car he had parked directly across the street, got in, and began the drive to New Bern, hands shaking.”
“These are the letters that Noah wrote you. I never threw them away, and they haven’t been opened. I know I shouldn’t have kept them from you, and I’m sorry for that. But I was just trying to protect you… I didn’t realize…”
- its sweet that they kept them - noelle
“A light rain begins to fall. Little drops tap gently on the window. I take her hand again. It is going to be a good day, a very good day. A magical day. I smile, I can’t help it.”
- im happy hes happy again - ashley
Why do you think Allie likes the art gallery so much?
Do you think that Allie had good reasoning to ignore Lon?
In your opinion, do you feel that Allie is more into Noah then Noah is into Allie? Or do you feel their feelings are the same.
How do you feel about Noah and Allie's love at this point of the book?
Do you think that their love will work out in the end?
D. Ashley
On Friday our group discussed the questions that were asked and we listened to the quotes that were picked. Noelle did a good job keeping are group on task. Everybody in our group had an input in our discussion. We all had very good inputs and opinions on the questions and quotes that were asked and said this week.
WEEK 4:
A. Ashley
Some of the themes in this book is that it is a love story and that love is very important. Some of the images that this book uses is that it flashes back from the past to the future and you can like tell how the house was built. You can also tell what the town looks like and what life was like during that time. These images seem to represent the story and what is going on during it. I think he uses this to describe and get more in-depth with their story.
B & C Noelle
" I am not sure if this is failing memory or simply the passage of time"
"She thinks about what i have said for a moment."
"I smile and nod. She smiles back. She reaches for my hand , takes it gently, and pulls it to her waist."
"And so the years passed. We led our lives working, painting, raising children, loving each other."
"We could not foresee the future, but then who can?"
What do you think the feelings between the two characters are right now?
Their feelings are getting much stronger than before from when they first met. Especially since they were separated for so long.
Do you think Allie has completely gotten over Lon?
Ashely: Yes, because now she is with her first love and they are so in love she has completely forgotten about him.
Carly: No, i think she still has some feelings for him, but not very strong ones.
How do you think Allie's parents feel about Allie going back to Noah?
Ashley: I think they were very happy, she wanted Allie to be with the guy she really loved since her mother and the same experience.
Do you like the way the story is so far?
Ashley: I think its a great book, i really like it.
Carly: I think its okay, it turn out better.
If you were Allie, and you saw your first love for the first time in a long time, would you go back to them like Allie did to Noah?
Ashley: I would not because Allie found another man, so if i was in Allie's place, i wouldn't go back to Noah.
Carly: I would go back to Noah, because if we both saw each other for the first time and we still had the same feelings for each other as before, i would definitely go back.
D. Carly
During this book club meeting, nobody brought in any food or drinks. However, it was still a productive period. Even though Ashley was scolded by Mr Morone several times, she still managed to keep us on task. Noelle chose very intriguing quotes and though of very good questions as well. We are almost finished with our novel, and should have it completed by next week.
WEEK 5
A. Carly
After reading The Notebook, my group and I would recommend it to others. We all feel that this novel teaches you the life lesson that you don't need a rich person to love, its the quality of the person that matters. In Ashley's opinon, Romeo and Juliet was a better book. Noelle feels that A Walk to Remember was a better love story. In my opinion, Dear John was a better story. My group does not think it should be considered for the school's curriculum, because the diversity of students may not like it, and it would be better for students to read it on their own.
Ashley B and C
What did you think of the ending?
Carly: It was good but predictable
Noelle: I agree with carly but it is so so so so so so so sad
How did the beginning differ from the end?
Noelle: It didn’t
Carly: The characters grew more and grew closer together
What is you opinion on the characters relationship?
Noelle: I think it is very strong
Do you like Noah?
Noelle: Yes
Carly: Yes he is not immature anymore
Would you reccomd this book to others?
Noelle: yes I would
“They are here at the creek: the birds, the geese, my friends.”
“She looks me in the eyes, and for a moment, just a moment, her eyes twinkle. A slight smile forms on her lips.”
“When I finally reach her room my body is weak.”
“Since this seems to be a night of memories, I look for and find my wedding ring.”
“For at that moment, the world is full of wonder as I feel her fingers reach for the buttons on my shirt and slowly, ever so slowly, she begins to undo them one by one.”
